Scales of the Empire
Bred for war, the Wyvaran are the youngest race among the dragonkin, if not the Empire. After the bloody rebellion by the Ageless that nearly toppled a young Empire, the Dragon Emperor sought the services of Suhimet, the most inventive of his dragonlords. They had lost so many of their noble kin, it was decided that a new race of soldiers be birthed from the lesser dragons in their host. The initial bio-experiments were failures all, with the restructuring of the dragonkin resulting in only mindless, feral beasts who killed without reservation or direction. They were abominations that could not be controlled, and the Emperor ordered them destroyed. For the time being, it seemed any chance of building their salvation was lost. But in a stroke of genius, Suhimet reached out for the unlikeliest of sources: kobolds. Suhimet recognized the tenacity of the diminutive race and found that resilience translated from their personalities into their physical being. With kobolds samples, as well as contributions from willing dragons, Suhimet was able to manufacture the first wyvaran. From there, the process was child’s play.
In the years since, the process of creating Wyvaran has been refined into an art form. They are perfectly designed for all sorts of martial challenges: war, execution, assassination, and more. The Wyvarans are now not only the chief soldiers in the Dragon Emperor’s army, but the elite pulled from among their ranks now form the core of the Empire’s elite special forces. They are shock troopers, designed to crush enemies before they even know they’re being attacked. And when the dust settles and the smoke clears, their influence makes sure the enemy stays down for good.
Wyvaran seldom want for anything outside for what they were designed. Their loyalty to the Empire is ingrained in their every scale, and to question that loyalty is to invite death.
